One Year Today

Happy to say we have officially hit that first anniversary. It is wonderful to be able to say that this all started a year ago today.

Nine Months Later

From smoking nearly a pack a day to running 5K's. His first race he came in third in his division, second in his second.

I don't know that anyone could have expected such a transformation from where we were nine months ago.

What a difference time can make.

Three Months Later

Well folks, this is going to be my last post for this blog.

Bink is doing really well at this point and on today, the three month anniversary of his accident, he returned to work on light duty. For at least the next three months he will be on light duty. Today light duty meant that he was doing breakdown data entry. What light duty will look like in three months is hard to tell.

In terms of injuries, there will be a lasting impact on both of us. Physically, Bink likely will not see full healing of his burns for at least another year. His wrists and back are on the same timeline. Emotionally, we are fortunate to have each other to vent our aggravations, frustrations and concerns to. Even more fortunately, we are surrounded by people who have taken care of us through prayer and in person.

Three months ago today, we could not have imagined that he would be back to work today. So, in three months who knows where we will be.

So, for the last time on this blog, thank you.

All our best,

B & E

He is just so sensitive...

Ah, back to Allentown for Bink today. Fortunately the weather didn't catch him until he was about a half hour from home.

The wrist ortho had first dibs today. Things are progressing well with his wrists. He has commented that he feels like he has more use of them then initially (duh!) and his doc and PT have said that at this point "better" will be incremental changes. Overall, things look well with his wrists and he, like the back ortho, has cleared Bink for light duty. Alas, the back ortho said light duty could not come until January 20th though. Which leads to the next visit.

For about the past week, Bink has been getting the biggest pustules (on his chest) you have seen since eighth grade. Okay, fine, big, pussy zits. Anyway, because he was headed down to Allentown today he decided that he would try to stop by Burn Recovery to see what they thought. Fortunately they were able to squeeze (te-he) him in. Turns out that Mr. Sensitive is no longer allowed to use Eucerin on any part of his body as he is breaking out because it is too oily. He was given a new script for his aspirin concoction that now will have a base of cocoa butter. He hates the smell of cocoa butter and was resisting this one from the start. Oh well, that's how it goes really.

For a bit of a conundrum, Burn Recovery has also advised that Bink can be released for light duty. However, their stipulations make it curious what his return to work will look like. He is not to be exposed to short-term (or prolonged) heat or cold, he is not to stand in one general position, he is to limit his bending/stretching and he can't lift more than 10 pounds. Hopefully over the next week or so he will have a better guess at what work will mean for him.

I hope you all have enjoyed your holidays. Take care.

First Appointment of the New Year

Bink wasted no time having his first appointment of the year in Allentown.  The goofy kid scheduled an appointment for 10:00 this morning.  Today's appointment was with the orthopedist for his back.  Not feeling well, I skipped the appointment, but here is the rundown according to Bink.

New x-rays were done of his back upon arrival.  The doc came in, had him bend over so he could feel his back.  He felt that things were going well.  Bink let him know that he is having some pain/discomfort issues to which the doc said to take OTC pain meds (no Ranger candy for him). He told Bink that he needs to take walk as much as possible.  He also prescribed physical therapy for the back.

So, if you are ever looking for Bink for the next few weeks, a safe bet is that he will be at the local Y.  Between the prescribed wrist PT, back PT and strolling on the treadmill and/or elliptical, that really will be his new "job" for at least a few weeks.

The back ortho said that he would be releasing Bink back to "light duty" on January 20th.  We will find out next week if the wrist ortho feels the same way.  Next post will be early next week.
